If you've started researching veneers, you've probably noticed something frustrating: almost nobody will tell you what they cost.
There's a reason for that — and it isn't (always) evasiveness. But we believe you deserve real numbers and a real explanation, even before you sit in anyone's chair. So here is the honest version.
Across the greater Houston area, as of mid-2026, most practices quote porcelain veneers somewhere between roughly $1,000 and $2,500 per tooth. National surveys land in a similar range, with the typical fee sitting near the middle of it. Resin-based and composite veneers generally run meaningfully less per tooth, and some practices advertise entry prices below $1,000 — usually for composite, not porcelain.
Why such a wide range? Because a veneer is not a product you pick off a shelf. It's a small piece of custom craftsmanship, and several things move the number.
The material matters most. Porcelain is the benchmark for translucency, stain resistance, and longevity, and it costs more to produce and place. Composite and modern resin-based veneers are more affordable and can look beautiful, but they typically need refreshing or replacement sooner. Neither is 'better' in the abstract — they're different tools, and the right one depends on your teeth, your goals, and your budget.
The number of teeth is the next lever. Some smiles are transformed by two or four veneers matched carefully to the natural neighbors; others call for six, eight, or ten to keep everything harmonious. A skilled cosmetic dentist should tell you the smallest number that serves your goal — not the largest number you'll agree to.
Complexity quietly drives cost too. Underlying bite issues, worn or chipped teeth that need building up first, gum contouring, or replacing old dental work all add planning and chair time. This is also why a quote given without an exam isn't really a quote — it's a guess.
And then there's what the fee actually includes. Two identical-sounding prices can hide very different realities. Does the fee include the diagnostic workup and imaging? The design preview? Temporaries? Adjustments afterward? A night guard to protect your investment if you grind? When you compare practices, compare the whole picture, not the headline number.
A word about teaser pricing: if an advertised veneer price looks dramatically lower than everything else you've seen, read the fine print. Sometimes it's an honest composite price. Sometimes it's a per-tooth price that assumes a large case. And sometimes the quality of materials and lab work is exactly what the price suggests. Veneers are one of those purchases where re-doing cheap work costs more than doing considered work once.
