Jaw pain, grinding,
and restless sleep — treated.

Morning headaches, a clicking or aching jaw, worn or chipped teeth, snoring that wakes the house — these often share a root in how your jaw and airway behave while you sleep. We assess the joint, the bite, and the airway together, and treat with custom appliances that are comfortable enough to actually wear.

Why AGAVI

TMJ & Sleep Apnea Treatment, done differently.

Night guards that protect — and fit

Grinding and clenching (bruxism) wear down enamel, crack fillings, and strain the jaw. A custom guard made from a 3D scan is slim, precise, and comfortable — unlike the bulky boil-and-bite kind that ends up in a drawer.

The joint and the bite, seen clearly

A focused TMJ exam plus cone beam 3D imaging where it helps shows us the jaw joint, the bite, and the airway in detail — so treatment addresses the cause of your symptoms, not just the sore muscles.

A quieter alternative for sleep apnea

For many people with snoring or mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea, a custom oral appliance that gently holds the jaw forward keeps the airway open — a small, silent alternative to a CPAP machine, prescribed in coordination with your physician.

The Process

Considered, start to finish.

Every step explained before it happens, in plain language — that's the AGAVI way. Here's how TMJ and sleep treatment unfolds here.

  • TMJ (jaw joint) assessment and bite evaluation
  • Custom night guards from a 3D scan for grinding and clenching
  • Airway screening at every exam
  • Cone beam 3D imaging of the joint and airway when indicated
  • Custom oral appliance therapy for snoring and sleep apnea
  • Coordination with your physician or sleep specialist
01

Listen and assess

We ask about headaches, jaw sounds, sleep quality, and daytime fatigue, then examine your jaw joints, muscles, bite, and the wear on your teeth. An airway screening is part of every exam.

02

Image when it matters

Cone beam 3D imaging shows the joint and airway in detail when symptoms call for it. If sleep apnea is suspected, we coordinate with your physician for a sleep study — the diagnosis is theirs to make.

03

A custom appliance

From a comfortable 3D scan we design your night guard or sleep appliance to fit precisely, then adjust it at delivery so it's comfortable from the first night.

04

Follow up and fine-tune

We check how you're sleeping and feeling, fine-tune the appliance, and — for sleep apnea — coordinate with your physician to confirm it's working.

Good Questions

TMJ & Sleep Apnea Treatment, answered honestly.

What are the signs of a TMJ problem?

Jaw pain or tightness, clicking or popping when you open or chew, headaches (especially in the morning), earaches without an ear infection, a jaw that locks or feels tired, and teeth that look worn, flattened, or chipped. Many people have several of these and never connect them to the jaw.

Can a dentist treat sleep apnea?

A dentist can treat it with a custom oral appliance once a physician has diagnosed it — sleep apnea is a medical condition confirmed by a sleep study. We screen your airway, refer you for testing when something looks concerning, and, with your physician, provide oral appliance therapy for snoring and mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea, or for patients who can't tolerate CPAP.

How does a sleep apnea mouthpiece work?

It gently holds your lower jaw slightly forward while you sleep, which keeps the tongue and soft tissue from collapsing into the airway. It's custom-made from a scan of your teeth, small enough to travel with, and silent — many patients, and their partners, sleep better from the first week.

Is a custom night guard worth it over a drugstore one?

For most grinders, yes. Boil-and-bite guards are bulky, shift during the night, and can actually encourage clenching. A custom guard made from a 3D scan is thinner, fits precisely, balances your bite, and lasts for years — which is why people actually wear it. It also protects any crowns, veneers, or fillings you've invested in.

Can Botox help with jaw clenching?

For some patients, yes. Small, precisely placed doses in the masseter (the main chewing muscle) can reduce clenching force and the tension headaches that come with it, and it's offered by our physician-led medspa under the same roof. We'll discuss whether it's appropriate for you alongside a night guard — not instead of one.

What does TMJ or sleep apnea treatment cost?

A custom night guard is a modest, one-time investment that protects far more expensive dental work. Sleep appliances cost more and are sometimes eligible for medical (not dental) insurance benefits when apnea has been diagnosed. We'll quote your exact fee after your evaluation, in writing, and help with the paperwork where we can.

“Ok real talk, I'm scared of the dentist fr. Hadn't been in a minute… like a LONG minute 😬. But I walked into AGAVI and bro, the whole spot looks like a resort. Lowkey had me calm the second I walked in, no cap. They greeted me like I was checking into a vacation spot. Check-in was all on my phone, quick, no clipboard stuff. Then they did a full exam with all the new tech and even scanned my teeth in 3D. Meanwhile I'm just chillin watching the TV on the ceiling like it's nothing. After that they put everything up on a big screen, my x-rays and pics of my teeth, and broke it all down. They answered every question I had and never made me feel dumb about how long it'd been. La neta, that meant a lot. Then they got me in for my cleaning right away, and ong I needed it BAD. My teeth and my whole mouth feel so clean now, like brand new. I've never walked out of a dentist feeling like this. I already told them I'm doing my veneers there. Can't wait. If you're scared of the dentist like me, go to AGAVI. 10/10 🔥🦷”

“I went to Agavi dental studio as a new patient. First off, the waiting room and whole office feels and looks and even smells like a tropical Tulum resort spa. The effect is elevated and calming. On arrival I was greeted warmly and offered a cool scented face towel and refreshment like when you arrive at a nice resort. Check in was easy and digital. They did a full exam with the latest tech. They even scanned my teeth in 3D! They did all this while I relaxed watching the overhead TV. They also presented the exam results on a nice big screen where they showed my Xray’s and pictures and answered all my questions. I only needed a cleaning, which I got right away, and again it was a calm experience and my teeth have never felt cleaner! With the resort like experience and great customer service, I look forward to my next visit.”
